At our Jeep® dealership serving New Philadelphia, OH, we’re ready to assist you with all your parts and service needs. One of the most critical components of any vehicle is the battery. Treat it well and you should have no worries about getting maximum output. With this in mind, here are two important battery care tips straight from our talented service department.

Cleaning

A clean battery is a well-functioning battery. There are two areas you should focus your efforts on, regardless of whether you own a Dodge Charger or a Chrysler Pacifica near Wooster, OH: the case and the terminals. Maintaining a clean case is easy – just check it periodically, and if dirt and/or oil residue are visible, wipe it away with a paper towel dipped in a water-detergent mix. If you let too much detritus collect on the case, your battery may experience a current drain, so it’s best to check the case every month or two.

The terminals are also easy to clean. Just remove the clamps covering them and wipe away any dirt, oxidation, or grease that’s accrued. Similar to the battery case, if you wait too long to clean the terminals, they’ll be so covered in gunk that the battery’s charge could weaken.

Securing

Your car battery should always be snug and secure in its tray. Unfortunately, batteries can come loose over time, or with repeated off-road driving. If this happens, you risk the battery banging into other engine components, or spilling acid. Avoid these potential pitfalls by checking the battery’s position every so often, and cleaning the battery tray if needed.
