When you think of Jeep SUVs and RAM trucks, what do you think of? For many, the answer is rough-and-tough, off-roading vehicles. From the iconic Jeep Wrangler to the powerful RAM 1500, these models are renowned for their capability and innovation. Efficiency and technology, on the other hand, aren’t usually associated with these durable off-road models available here at Village Motors Inc. FCA US LLC aims to change that.
Ten years ago, many laughed at the idea of hybrid or electric pickup trucks. Now, FCA US LLC CEO Mike Manley has announced the brand has plans to create at least “four hybrid plug-in vehicles and the flexibility to produce fully battery-electric vehicles” for Jeep and RAM models.
This comes right on the heels of the 2019 RAM 1500, which came out with its mild-hybrid e-Torque technology. This mild-hybrid system not only improved efficiency, but it also enhanced performance, making the RAM truck even more capable than previous models. Now, the idea is to expand that technology into full-hybrid or even full-electric drivetrains.
FCA US LLC plans to do this using its recently announced $4.5 billion dollar investment plan. The investment will be used to add a new plant in Detroit dedicated to manufacturing electric car models.
